Requisitions’ group of the Sierra Leone Bar Association, despite illegal disruption of the Sierra Leone Police, to halt an extra-ordinary general meeting in Freetown on the 10th of July has concluded the meeting where they resolved to appoint a five-man caretaker board to steer the affairs of the country’s biggest legal company.
Led by Augustine Sorie-Sengbeh Marrah and Wara Serry-Kamal, members of the Bar Association resolved to also remove the Eddinia Michaela Swallow’s led executive, which they accused of dereliction of their duties after they failed to conduct a proposed Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Kenema.
Former presidents of the Bar Associations, among other senior members of at least 15 years, were unanimously approved including E. Shears –Moses Esq, Musa Nuru Kamara Esq, Elvis Kargbo Esq, Basita Michael Esq, Rhoda Suffian-Kargbo.
The lawyers have vowed to resist the forceful imposition of Tuma Gento Jabbie, whom the requisitionist claimed was not duly elected in a sham AGM conducted by disgraced commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission Francis Ben Keifala, saying Gento-Jabbie is continuing to use the state machinery to destroy the Bar Association which has enjoyed maximum independence since its inception.
“The Emergency general meeting was convened following an over 500 requisitions signed by paid up members of the Bar,’’ a release signed by leaders of the group affirmed, noting members of the Bar Association are fully committed to transparency, accountability and good governance.
The newly formed caretaker board will immediately take the necessary steps to address the July 10th Resolution of the Bar, in a bid to ensure continued integrity and excellence of the Bar, the group said, in a public statement issued last evening.
