The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), yesterday took a significant step towards promoting football development across the country by distributing forty motorbikes to eight district football associations as part of a pilot project aimed at enhancing football activities and generating income.
The project, which involves 160 motorbikes across 16 districts and 5 regions, seeks to empower district football associations to manage their own football development initiatives. Each of the eight Football Association beneficiaries are – Kailahun, Kono, Moyamba, Bonthe, Falaba, Koinadugu, Karene, and Kambia – received five motorbikes.
SLFA President Thomas Daddy Brima emphasized that the motorbikes are to be used strictly for income-generating activities related to football development. He outlined that the districts would manage the motorbikes under a cost-recovery system, where income generated would be used to cover operational costs, maintenance, and eventual recovery of the capital cost of the motorbikes.
The president maintained that to ensure transparency and accountability, each district football association is required to submit monthly financial reports to the SLFA Finance Department and the Regional Football Association to which they belong.
The remaining eight districts will receive their quota of motorbikes within the next three months as part of the ongoing implementation process. This initiative is expected to boost football development activities, enhance income generation, and promote sustainability in the districts. By empowering district football associations, SLFA is taking a proactive approach to football development, ensuring that the benefits of football reach every corner of the country.
