In a landmark event that underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to improving healthcare delivery across Sierra Leone, the National Chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, has officially commissioned a newly constructed hospital in Moriba Town, Bonthe District.
The commissioning ceremony drew a large crowd of community members, traditional leaders, health workers, and local government officials, all eager to witness the unveiling of what many described as a long-awaited healthcare facility that promises to transform lives in the region.
Representing His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio and the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa delivered an inspiring keynote address that celebrated collaboration, vision, and service to humanity. He praised the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Mission for their generous sponsorship and financial support, which made the hospital project possible.
“This hospital is not just a building of bricks and mortar,” Sir Jimmy said. “It represents a renewed hope for the people of Moriba Town and beyond—a testament to what can be achieved when government, partners, and communities work together for a common purpose.”
He lauded President Bio for his visionary leadership and for consistently placing the health and welfare of citizens at the center of his national development agenda. According to him, the establishment of such healthcare facilities in rural and semi-urban communities is a clear reflection of the administration’s focus on equitable access to quality health services.
The SLPP Chairman also extended special recognition to the Honourable Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Fatmata Bintu Bockarie, for her unwavering advocacy and dedication to her people. He described her as “a beacon of service and a true example of people-centered leadership,” noting that her persistence and hard work have turned the dreams of the people of Moriba Town into a reality.
Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa also commended the team from the Ministry of Health and Sanitation for their technical support during the construction and commissioning process. He praised their professionalism and commitment, emphasizing that their involvement exemplified the kind of partnership and unity required to drive national progress.
In his remarks, he urged the medical and administrative staff who will serve at the hospital to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and compassion. “Healthcare is not just a job, it is a calling,” he stated. “You are entrusted with the sacred duty of preserving life and restoring dignity. Let your service to humanity be guided by empathy, discipline, and dedication.”
The commissioning ceremony featured performances by local cultural groups and expressions of gratitude from community members, many of whom said the hospital will ease the burden of traveling long distances to access medical care.
Hon. Fatmata Bintu Bockarie also expressed her joy and appreciation to all stakeholders who contributed to making the hospital a reality. She reaffirmed her commitment to working with the government and partners to bring more development projects to her constituency.
For residents of Moriba Town and neighboring villages, the new hospital is more than just a healthcare facility—it is a symbol of renewed hope, progress, and partnership. As the doors of the hospital officially open, many believe it will serve as a lifeline for the community, providing quality medical services and strengthening public confidence in the government’s vision for a healthier nation.
The commissioning of the Moriba Town Hospital stands as a proud testament to what collective effort and visionary leadership can achieve in the pursuit of a better Sierra Leone.
