SLPPG Train Journalists on Gender Reporting

With funds from Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD), members of the Sierra Leone Parliamentary Press Gallery (SLPPG) on Wednesday 15th June this year benefitted from a day intensive training on gender sensitive reporting, hosted at Parliament Administrative Building, Tower Hill, Freetown.

The training took the shape of statements from the Acting president, SLPPG, Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) and the Guild of Editors’ Sierra Leone.

Presentations on the provisions of the Gender and Women’s Empowerment Act, focusing on gender equality in Parliament, facilitated by Khadija Bangura, Country Rep. PN Africa.

President, Women in the Media Sierra Leone (WIMSAL), Eastina Taylor facilitated on media content in relation to gender sensitive reporting.

Dr. Willette James facilitated on how the media can promote women’s voices in parliament.

President SLPPG, Vincent Jabbie Momoh, among other things lauded the organizers for the training ahead of the 6th Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone, especially so when the Gender and Women Empowerment Act makes provision for safe seats for women in parliament.

He assured that members of the gallery will make good use of the training by working closely with the female parliamentary caucus and the gender committee for coverage especially on female MPs in and out of parliament.
