Kissy Road, Freetown

As part of its continued efforts to enhance road safety across Sierra Leone, the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has concluded a Training of Trainers workshop for members of the Sierra Leone National Association of the Deaf (SLNAD). The workshop themed, “Your Safety is Our Priority,” was held at the Authority’s Headquarters on Kissy Road, Freetown.

Speaking at the opening session, the Deputy Executive Director, Mr. Josie Scott Manga, on behalf of the Executive Director and Management, reaffirmed SLRSA’s commitment to ensuring road safety for all, especially persons with disabilities. He emphasised that the training aims to empower SLNAD members with essential road safety knowledge to facilitate their safe and unhindered movement.

Mr. Joseph A. Kamara, President of the Sierra Leone Union on Disability Issues (SLUDI), commended SLRSA for integrating the physically challenged community into its road safety agenda. He called for continued collaboration with other stakeholders to mainstream disability issues and hoped that similar training would soon be extended to the visually impaired and other disability groups.

Throughout the training, participants were educated on various aspects of road safety. Mr. Augustine Lansana, Manager of Safety and Enforcement, elaborated on the mandate of the Authority and the role of the Road Safety Corps. Mr. Daniel C. Kaitibi, Manager of Transport, led sessions on the practical use and interpretation of road signs to promote safer road usage.

Mrs. Mariama Masuba, Director of Human Resources and Administration, encouraged participants to serve as Goodwill Ambassadors by sharing the knowledge gained during the workshop. She reaffirmed the Authority’s dedication to engaging with people living with disabilities in future programs.

Additional insights were provided by Mr. Arthur Brima, Director of Transport, and the Executive Director of ORMS, further enriching the learning experience for the participants.

This workshop marks a significant step in making Sierra Leone’s roads safer and more inclusive for all.
