In a bid to ensure that Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) effectively deal with Persons With Disabilities, the aged and Orphanage, the Ministry of Social Welfare recently engaged some of these leading NGOs to see how they can provide effective monitoring and implement their activities.
The one-day meeting, which was held at the conference hall of the Ministry of Social Welfare- New England Ville, attracted officials of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.
The purpose of the meeting was to have an in-depth discussion on how to strengthen network among organizations, collaborate and ensure compliance among organizations working to support vulnerable population in the country.
The Head of Policy, Planning and Research in the Ministry of Social Welfare, Mr. M.C. Kamara, underscored the significant of the gathering.
He encouraged organizations of Persons With Disabilities (PWD) to continue to their vulnerable work in assisting persons with disabilities across Sierra Leone
Mr. Kamara made mentioned of the ministry welfare grant to organizations provide social serviced to persons with disabilities, the aged and Orphans.
He informed his audience about the social-work regulatory Act that was recently passed into law, waiting Presidential signatory, which entail the issuance of license to social workers.
In his contribution Mr. Sheka Osman Sesay of the Ministry of Planning Economic Development emphasized the need for transparency and accountability with organizations activities and implementation and called on organizations to signed the service legal agreement (SLA).
Mr. Sesay added that it sets clear expectations on service delivery and performance, ensuring accountability and providing framework for addressing service failure.
