The Ministry of Sports has hosted a ceremony for the celebration of the successes of the Sierra Leone Female Premier League.
At the Awards Night of the Female Premier League held at the Bintumani International Conference Centre in Freetown, Madam Augusta James-Teima congratulated the Female Premier League Board members.
“Today, we are celebrating women and women’s football; this is about gender empowerment and equality. I am pleased that we are prioritizing this for our women and girls,” she said.
James-Teima also extended profound gratitude to the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) for their support towards the Female Premier League.
Mentioning gender equality in sports, the Sports Minister said; “What men can do, women can do even better. In today’s world, we are progressing alongside men; they are no longer leaving us behind.”
Advocating for fair treatment of women in football, she said, “If men are given Le1, 500 or Dollars, women should receive the same; that’s what equality demands.”
She commended the players for their dedication and hard work throughout the league season. She urged the SLFA to consistently call them up to the national team. She encouraged them that they deserve more opportunities to elevate their careers to new heights.
Augusta James-Teima reassured continued government support for both the male and female Premier Leagues and specifically congratulated Mogbewmo Queens for clinching the league title consecutively.
