On Friday, 15th November 2024, Julian Jusu, a 21-year-old student, appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2 to answer to two charges of Larceny and Malicious Damage. The charges were brought under Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916 and Section 51 of the Malicious Damage Act of 1861.

The prosecution alleges that on Sunday, 3rd November 2024, at the Attaya Base Blue House in IMATT, Mountain Rural District, Jusu stole nine rolls of 4 M.M.A.C cables and twelve rolls of 2.5 M.M cables, valued at Le25,350. These cables were reported to be the property of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohamed Lamin Tarawalie, and were under the custody of Hassan Turay.

Additionally, Jusu is accused of maliciously damaging the same cables, causing a loss of Le25,350.

When the charges were read in court, Jusu pleaded not guilty to both counts. Detective Police Constable 18235 Thoronka K.K., representing the prosecution, requested a brief adjournment due to the absence of the prosecution’s witness.

Magistrate Bangura refused bail and ordered Jusu to be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown. The case was adjourned to Monday, 18th November 2024, for further hearings.

This developing case has drawn significant attention due to the alleged involvement of high-value property owned by a senior government official.
