In a bold step towards capacity building, Sunbird Bioenergy Sierra Leone – one of the nation’s largest and most impactful companies; has embarked on a weekly Excel computer training program for its staff.

The initiative, directed by Human Resources Manager, Mr. Ibrahim Jah Sesay, and expertly facilitated by Mr. Budekah Gunathila, Audit Manager and digital solutions specialist from Selenkay, reflects the company’s commitment to developing its workforce and strengthening its position in the global energy sector.

Across departments and disciplines, the training reaches staff in Audit, Finance, Agriculture, IT, and the Weighbridge, equipping them with essential digital skills to streamline operations, enhance data management, and support evidence-based decision-making.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the program, Human Resources Manager Mr. Ibrahim Jah Sesay emphasized:

“At Sunbird Bioenergy, we believe our greatest asset is our people. This training is not just about computer skills – it is about building confidence, efficiency, and innovation.

By investing in our staff, we are directly investing in the growth and sustainability of our company.

Together, we are laying the foundation for greater productivity and international competitiveness.”

At the heart of this initiative is Mr. Budekah Gunathila, Audit Department Manager and recognized computer solutions expert from Selenkay, who has brought both technical knowledge and practical insight to the training.

“Excellence is not an act, but a habit. Through these trainings, we are building a culture of accuracy, efficiency, and digital strength that will reflect across every department of Sunbird Bioenergy,” he stated.

From the fields to the boardroom, staff members have already begun witnessing the impact of the training.

From the Agriculture Department, junior executive staff Ms. Fatmata Kamara expressed her enthusiasm:

“This training has simplified how we record and analyze our farm data.

It is making our work faster, more accurate, and directly contributing to increased productivity.”

In financial operations, Ms. Janet B. Young, Acting Finance Manager, highlighted the significance:

“For finance, precision and time management are everything.

These Excel skills have sharpened our ability to process complex financial data with speed and reliability.”

Equally, in the area of compliance and accountability, the Audit Department supervisors shared their reflections on the training.

Mr. Bala S. Kamara, Audit Supervisor, noted:

“The Excel training has been an eye-opener. It has enhanced my ability to analyze data with precision, strengthened reporting standards, and given me new tools to uphold transparency within our systems.”

Mr. Eshaka S. Kanu, Audit Supervisor, added:

“This training has transformed the way we work.

It has sharpened our audit processes, boosted efficiency, and empowered us to deliver results that meet both company expectations and international compliance benchmarks.”

Together, their remarks underscore the vital role of digital skills in strengthening Sunbird Bioenergy’s audit integrity, reinforcing accountability, and aligning the company with global best practices.

Looking beyond the immediate impact, Sunbird Bioenergy’s approach reflects an emerging model for corporate growth in Sierra Leone – where technology, training, and teamwork drive success.

This initiative sends a clear signal to national stakeholders and international partners that the company is committed to global best practices, workforce empowerment, and sustainable growth.

Reaffirming the company’s alignment with Sierra Leone’s national development goals, Mr. Ibrahim Jah Sesay added:

“Sunbird Bioenergy is more than a business; we are a partner in Sierra Leone’s growth story. By equipping our workforce with modern skills, we are not only strengthening our company but also supporting the Government’s vision of digital transformation, job creation, and sustainable national development. Together with our international partners and local institutions, we are proud to contribute to a brighter future for Sierra Leone.”
