32yrs old Kelfala Kamara and 25yrs old George Macauley Both accused persons were standing before the Principal Magistrate Mark Ngegba of the Padempa Road Court No.1 in Freetown on two counts ranging from store breaking and larceny, contrary to Section 26 (1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
As recorded in the particulars of offence on the 1st to the 25th of August 2022 at No.32 Bendus Drive Lumley in the West of Freetown, with intent to steal, broke and entered into the Sweet Mother Guest House store and stole therein two led outdoor twenty-watts lights, Biltema 46842 valued Thirty-Six Thousand United States Dollars, four pieces of next optical smoke detectors valued Forty Thousand United States Dollars and other assorted items all to the total value of Forty-Five Thousand Four Hundred Forty United States Dollars ($45,440.00) equivalent to Six Hundred and Ninety-Two Thousand Nine Hundred and Sixty New Leones(NLe692,960.00) properties of Alton Bendu, whilst in care of Alvin Bendu.
Lead Prosecution Witness Number One (PW1), Deputy Superintendent of Police, Isatu Gbassy Fofanah, the Managing Director of Sweet Mother Guest House, Alvin Bendu in his testimonies in court recognized the complainant, accused and recalled on the 1st and on the 25th August 2022 respectively.
He said at mid-night the receptionist informed him about a theft at the guest house so he went there and identified the accused persons at around 4:00 am in the morning.
He told the court that he placed a call at Lumley Police Division and they reported at the scene of crime, noting that upon the arrival of the police he saw a lot of damage properties. He disclosed that the accused persons took a lot of boxes and some items but they were unable to take them away. The said he recorded at a statement to the Lumley Police Division.
Counsel representing the accused persons, Yusif Mansaray renewed his previous bail applications for and on behalf of the accused persons.
Meanwhile Magistrate Ngegba refused bail to both accused. The matter comes up again on 18th October 2022.
