The head coach of the Sierra Leone senior women’s national team- Sierra Queens, Hassan Malik Mansaray, has officially announced the invitation of 30 players to commence training on February 3, 2025.

The training session will take place at the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Academy Field in Kingtom, Freetown, starting at 12 PM. This initiative marks a significant step in the team’s preparation for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, as they gear up for their preliminary round match against Benin next month.

Coach Mansaray has emphasized the importance of the upcoming training sessions, highlighting that the team’s performance in the qualifiers would be instrumental in shaping the future of women’s football in Sierra Leone.

The preparation period is critical, as the Sierra Queens aim to create a strong foundation for success in the competition. “We are committed to ensuring that the team is fully prepared for the challenges that lie ahead. The qualifiers present a unique opportunity for us to showcase our talent on a continental stage,” Mansaray stated.

The Sierra Queens will be looking to build upon their past performances and strengthen their squad with fresh talent. By extending invitations to 30 players, Coach Mansaray aims to assess a diverse range of skills and capabilities, ensuring that the best-suited players are selected to represent Sierra Leone in the qualifiers.

The training sessions will focus on various aspects, including tactical drills, fitness routines, and team cohesion, all aimed at fostering a competitive spirit among the players.

As the team enters this crucial stage of preparation, the technical staff and players are aware of the heightened expectations from fans and stakeholders.

Sierra Queens have made strides in recent years; and there is a growing desire among supporters for the team to make a significant impact in regional competitions.

Additionally, the women’s national team has been working tirelessly to elevate the status of women’s football in Sierra Leone, and this tournament is seen as a platform to amplify such efforts. With the national association backing the initiative, there is a strong sense of optimism within the camp as players come together to focus on their common goal.

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has also expressed its support for the team’s preparations. President Thomas Daddy Brima had reiterated the association’s commitment to promote women’s football in the country, commending Coach Mansaray for his dedication to the squad. “We believe in the potential of our women’s team, and we are ready to provide all necessary support for their success,” Brima stated.

As the training commences on February 3, the players are expected to bring energy and determination, preparing not just for their match against Benin, but for the growth and recognition of women’s football in Sierra Leone.

The upcoming qualifiers pose a formidable challenge; but with focused training, the Sierra Queens will be well-positioned to make their mark on the continental stage.
