Abu Sankoh alias Delta and Suliaman Ponpony Bangura, a businessman appeared before Magistrate Shar Kekura of Ross Road Court No.1 for allegedly assaulting and wounding the complainants, Abdul Salam Sesay and Ibrahim Sesay in a manner thereby causing them grievous bodily harm.
The accused, Abu Sankok , a mason and Suliaman Ponpony Bangura were arrested on 2, June 2023 Detective Police Constable (DPC) Sankoh M.M and were before the court for the offences of wounding with intent, wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm all contrary to the Offensive against the Persons Act of 1861.
According to the police records, on Saturday 26, November 2022 at New York in the Western Area Rural District (WARD), in Freetown, the accused assaulted and wounded the complainants Abdul Salam Sesay and Ibrahim Sesay in a manner thereby causing them grievous bodily harm.
Led in evidence by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Osman M. Bangura prosecution witness (PW)3, Suliaman Koroma who resides at Hastings on the outskirts of Freetown, told the court that he knew the complainants and recognised the accused.
He said he recalled on 26 November, 2022.
Koroma continued that on the said date, he was between Hastings and New York on the said piece of land together with the complainants.
PW 3 said why they were discussing, he saw a group of gangs armed with cutlasses and sticks coming towards them and upon their arrival, he said the first prosecution’s witness, Abdul Salam Sesay asked them what were they doing on the land.
Among the group of men, the witness said he saw the first and second accused.
The witness said the accused started abusing the complainants, adding that one of the men called, American, forcefully pushed the first complainant and the first accused chopped him with a cutlass on head.
He said blood was oozing from the complainant’s wounds.
Being that prosecution’s witness was struggling to testify in court, Magistrate Kekura advised the police prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Osman M. Bangura to put his house in order or do the needful against the next adjourned date.
Bail of the accused remains in force and the matter will come up on 18 December for further examination in chief.
