The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UBA Sierra Leone Mohamed Alhajie Samoura has commended the outgoing Chief Executive Officer of Orange Sierra Leone Sekou Amadou Bah for his visionary leadership and strong commitment to advancing digital financial inclusion in Sierra Leone.
Mr Samoura made the remarks while speaking at the farewell cocktail dinner organised in honour of Mr Bah on Tuesday 13 January at the Country Lodge Hotel in Freetown. The ceremony brought together senior government officials business leaders and industry partners to reflect on Mr Bah’s tenure and contributions to the telecommunications and financial sectors.
In his statement Mr Samoura highlighted the strategic partnership between UBA Sierra Leone and Orange Sierra Leone describing it as a relationship that has played a key role in expanding access to financial services across the country. He noted that UBA Sierra Leone was among the first banks to be onboarded onto the Orange Money bank to wallet platform a development that has made banking services more accessible especially to people living in underserved and remote communities.
According to him the bank to wallet integration has improved convenience reduced transaction barriers and strengthened the link between mobile money and the formal banking system. He credited Mr Bah’s leadership for creating an enabling environment that encouraged innovation collaboration and customer focused solutions.
Mr Samoura further praised the outgoing Orange Sierra Leone CEO for his humility inclusiveness and exemplary leadership style noting that these qualities helped foster trust among partners regulators and customers. He said Mr Bah’s approach to leadership has left a lasting impression on the digital finance landscape and has contributed significantly to national efforts aimed at promoting financial inclusion.
The UBA Sierra Leone MD also acknowledged Mr Bah’s dedication to corporate social responsibility. He expressed optimism that existing collaborations between the UBA Foundation and the Orange Foundation would be strengthened to deliver greater impact in areas such as education health youth empowerment and community development.
He used the occasion to formally welcome the incoming Chief Executive Officer of Orange Sierra Leone Madam Aicha Toure expressing confidence that the strong partnership between the two institutions would continue to grow. Mr Samoura reaffirmed UBA Sierra Leone’s commitment to supporting Orange Sierra Leone in driving digital innovation and inclusive economic growth.
The farewell cocktail dinner attracted key national stakeholders including the Chief Minister the Mayor of Freetown the Governor of the Central Bank of Sierra Leone Members of Parliament senior government officials and executives of Orange Sierra Leone. The event served as both a celebration of Mr Bah’s legacy and a reaffirmation of collective commitment to strengthening partnerships that support digital transformation and sustainable development in Sierra Leone.
