Veteran renowned Sierra Leonean journalist and international civil servant based in the United Kingdom, Mr. Michael Massaquoi, recently signed the book of condolence for the late Queen Elizabeth 11 who died on 8th and was buried on 19th September this year.Mr. Michael Massaquoi, who also worked for Standard Times and Concord Times respectively while in Sierra Leone, is similarly a social activist who has championed many issues of national interest while in the United Kingdom and while practicing as a journalist at home, he was very vocal and fearless as he wrote several articles on social justice, advocated for the disadvantaged and marginalized, the physically-challenged, championed the fight against corruption and promoted good governance and democracy.

In December 2020, he brokered peace between the embattled Paramount Chief of Bargura Chiefdom in the Moyamba District and his people after years in exile for alleged cannibalism and misrule of his people, a move that was hailed not only by the people in the chiefdom but nationwide and abroad.

Also in July 2021, Mr. Michael Massaquoi joined thousands of other activists in London, United Kingdom to protest for the rights of access to facilities irrespective of social/ethics/sexual backgrounds.

At the time of the protest, he informed this medium that it was to raise awareness of the marginalization minority communities were facing on a daily basis with a view to extending it to Africa, especially Sierra Leone.

While working for the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic Congo and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sierra Leone, Mr. Massaquoi wrote concept papers and speeches that were presented at international conferences that helped to transform the image of Sierra Leone internationally as well as attract donor support.
