The National Spokesman of the All Peoples Congress (APC), Alhaji Sidi Yaya Tunis, has dismissed claims that the vetting rules guiding the election of the party’s next leader and presidential candidate are designed to target individuals.
He said the APC has a responsibility to safeguard its leadership process, ensuring that whoever emerges is not entangled with the law. “The party has learned its lessons. We must only elect a tried and tested politician—one who has a clear vision to transform our beloved country,” Tunis stressed.
The Spokesman reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to respecting the laws of Sierra Leone, noting that the party has always demonstrated the ability to bring transformation while identifying with the plight of the ordinary man and woman.
According to Tunis, many aspirants who have declared their interest in the APC leadership are qualified, but emphasized that “several parameters” will guide the final decision. He underscored the need for an electable candidate capable of winning the 2026 presidential election and tackling the country’s most pressing challenges—corruption, nepotism, and the proliferation of drugs.
