Consultant pathologist, Babatunde M. Duduyemi attached to the Connaught Teaching Hospital last Wednesday 8 February 2023 testified in court that the cause of death by Kai Osman Fengai was hypovolaemic shock acute blood loss which led to stab wound to the chest and left lung.
In his testimony the witness highlighted some of his duties as a surgical pathologist includes teaching of Post and Undergraduate students at the teaching hospital and performing autopsy.
He told the court that he has been a pathologist for twenty-one (21) years and recalled April 26 2021 when he performed an autopsy on the deceased (Kai Osman Fengai) at the Connaught mortuary in Freetown.
He said that before performing the autopsy the deceased was identified by his relative, one Hassan Fengai, adding that after the autopsy he wrote a report and issued out a death certificate on the cause of the death to the family.
He disclosed that he also gave the original certificate to the deceased’s relative and copy to the Sierra Leone Police. The autopsy report was tendered in court to form part of evidence.
The witness also told the court that the deceased’s body was brought to the Connaught to know the cause of death, adding that the cause of the death was hypovolaemic shock acute blood loss which led to stab wound to the chest and left lung. He said in his expert option that the cause of death is unnatural, the manner and mood was homicidal.
Representing the accused, lawyer Randy S. Bangura said he did not have any question for the witness.
The accused are Mohamed Johnson, Aiah Komba, Kaliliu Fofanah, Victor Kelie and Ishmail Charles are before Hon Justice Monfred Sesay on two counts of conspiracy to commit murder and murder contrary to law.
State prosecutor, Aruna Jalloh alleged that the accused on diverse dates between 19 21 April 2021 at Koidu town, Kono district eastern province conspired with other unknown persons to commit murder.
It was further alleged that the accused on April 20 2021 at the same place murdered Kai Osman Fengai. Hon Justice Monfred Sesay adjoined the matter to February 26 2023.
