Following a fire outbreak at State House in Freetown on Saturday, 12 April 2025, Vice President Dr. Mohammed Juldeh Jalloh visited and remained on site for the most part of the night and operated from his office on Sunday 13 April to coordinate the emergency response.
The Vice President, acting in the absence of President Julius Maada Bio, who is currently on an official visit to Antalya, Türkiye, took charge of the situation, overseeing firefighting efforts and ensuring continuity of operations despite the blaze.
According to an official statement from the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, the fire started around 4:00 p.m. on the 4th Floor of the West Wing and later spread to the 3rd Floor. The National Fire Force and other emergency agencies responded promptly, and the fire was largely contained to the affected floors.
During his inspection of the site, Vice President Jalloh called for a thorough investigation and audit into the cause of the incident, which remains unknown. Thankfully, the Office of the President, located on the 2nd Floor, was not affected, and emergency teams have been working to ensure it remains secure.
Multiple government agencies, including the Office of National Security, Sierra Leone Police, Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, and the Guma Valley Water Company, are actively supporting the response.
The public has been urged to remain calm and follow official updates as authorities continue to manage the situation and gather more information.
