The chairman of All Political Parties Association, Prince (APPA) Charles Raymond Coker says there’s no small party in Sierra Leone because all parties are the equal.
He made this statement on Tuesday 10 September 2024, at the Ministry of Information and Civic Education weekly press conference held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation conference hall at Tower Hill in Freetown.
According to Mr. Coker, Sierra Leone is meant for everyone and noted that we don’t have smaller party in the country rather all political parties in the country are all equal, adding that they paid the same amount of money like the current president paid during election, so people should stop calling other political parties as small parties.
He continued that when it comes to politics all political parties are equal because they are all going through the same procedures and they’re paying the same nomination fees so why they’re referring to others as small political parties?
“When it comes to politics all political parties are equal because we are all going through the same procedures and we’re paying the same nomination fees so, why people are referring to other political parties as small political in the country?” he said.
He noted that during the 1996 election, the APC party came third in that election. He said by then it was PDP and UPP that decided the then election and there was no APC, adding that had it not been PDP the then government wouldn’t have won the election in the country.
He said even the 2007 election, the PMDC played a crucial role for the APC party to win that election in the country and even this current regime he said the NGC also played a key role for the them to win the past election and the CDC also had sit in Parliament which mean they’re not small political parties in Sierra Leone.
He said there would come a time when the two major political parties would come down and other parties would emerged to take the mountains of leadership in the country. He said it’s not a culture or a laid down principle that says it’s just APC and SLPP that would rule Sierra Leone forever.
“Trust me time will come when the two major political parties would come down and other parties will emerged to take the mountains of leadership in the country and it’s not a culture or a laid down principle that says it’s just APC and SLPP that would rule Sierra Leone forever. Other parties will emerged in the long run,” he noted.
He said the mindset of people need to change and Sierra Leonean need to get that straight because all Political parties are doing things equally in the country.
