The Parliament of Sierra Leone on Tuesday, 22/07/2025, unanimously ratified diplomatic agreements between Sierra Leone and others for the development of the world and nations.
The following agreements were approved by Parliament:
- Agreement Between the Government of the Republic Kazakhstan and the Government of Sierra Leone on Exemption from Visaย Requirementsย for Holders of Diplomaticย andย Serviceย Passports
- Agreement Under the Untied Nation’s Convention on the Law of Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biologicalย Diversity of Area Beyondย Nationalย Jurisdiction and
- Combined 6th and 7th Periodic Report on the United Nations Convention on the Right the Child Submitted by the Republic of Sierra Leone Under Article 44 of the Convention
Presenting a series of international agreements before Parliament, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Timothy Kabba announced a new bilateral cooperation with Kazakhstan. He described the agreement as a significant step in expanding Sierra Leoneโs diplomatic relations and creating travel opportunities for citizens.
PARLIAMENT RECEIVES DONATION FROM INTERNATIONAL IDEA
The Parliament of Sierra Leone on Tuesday 22/07/2025 received donations worth over $40,000 USD from International IDEA Sierra Leone Chapter, supported by the European Union.
The items included:
- Ten Desktop Computers
- Seven laptop computers and
- Giant Printer
The donation ceremony was held at the Speaker’s Board Room in Freetown, where Madam Finda Fraser, Director General of Parliament, expressed gratitude for the timely support. She acknowledged IDEA International’s long-standing relationship with Parliament and assured them of judicious use of the items.
Responding the country Representative of IDEA Dr.Idriss Mahmud Tarawallie expressed his organisation’s continued working relationship with Parliament and later assured Parliament of more support.
Public Accounts Committee Reviews 2023 Auditor Generalโs Report with Key Government Institutions
Parliament Building, July 23, 2025 โ The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament convened on Wednesday to engage several Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) regarding audit queries raised in the 2023 Auditor Generalโs Report.
The session, held at the Administrative Building of Parliament, brought together representatives from the following institutions:
- Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion
- National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA)
During the engagement, the committee examined various audit findings presented by the Audit Service. While some issues were clarified and resolved during the proceedings, others required further scrutiny. In such cases, the Committee has directed the Audit Service to conduct follow-up investigations and report back with their findings.
The review process is part of the Committeeโs oversight mandate to ensure transparency, accountability, and proper use of public funds.
PARLIAMENT RATIFIES AGREEMENTS
The Parliament of Sierra Leone has on Tuesday 22/7/2025 debated and ratified two agreements grared towards the development of the State.
The following agreements were ratified by Parliament:
1.The Debt-Equity Swap Agreement (First Agreement to the Agreement of 16 2012- by and between the Government of Sierra Leone and Sierra Mineral Holdings Limited) and
- Articles of Agreement of the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment Export Credit
The two agreements were presented by the Minister of Finance,ย Sheku Ahmedย Fantamadi Bangura
PARLIAMENT PASSES INTO LAW THE SIERRA LEONE ELECTRICITY AND WATER REGULATORY COMMISSION ACT
The Parliament of Sierra Leone on Thursday, 24/07/2025; debated and unanimously passed into law, with some amendments the Sierra Leone Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission Act 2025.
This Act regulates electricity, water, and sanitation services in Sierra Leone, aiming to improve service delivery.
Key provisions in the Act included the establishment of a regulatory framework for the electricity and water sectors, outlining roles, responsibilities, and boundaries to avoid conflicts among agencies.
It also provides for consumer protection, including a consumer complaint unit to address concerns and ensure better performance.
Also, the commission is expected to present an annual tariff report to Parliament for review and consideration.
Presenting the Bill, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Dr. Sao-Kpato Hannah told Members of Parliament that the document is divided into fourteen parts. The Minister disclosed that Bill aims at improving and providing adequate service to the people of Sierra Leone.
