Western Area Power Project Nears Completion

The Minister of Energy Alhaji Kanja Sesay has said that the new 33KV line aimed at providing efficient power supply to the Western Area of Sierra Leone will be completed around March or April of next year.

The Minister made this statement during an inspection tour of warehouses for the Government of Sierra Leone and the World Bank funded Western Area Network Rehabilitation Project.

He explained that with the speed at which the materials to be used for the project were coming into the country; the work shall be completed early next year.

Sesay acknowledged the challenges in network infrastructure in the Western Area but was quick to assure residents in the region that when the project would have been completed; the problem with off-load shedding will be reduced. He emphasized that the project will be address the huge challenges that are associated with evacuation and transmission.

The Minister said they had launched the Every Sector Unit Reform Project to deal with certain issues in the sector, he further explained the project seeks to fix the obsolete distribution and transmission network in the Western Area through the construction of primary substances at Aberdeen, King Tom, Falcon Bridge, Cline Town and Waterloo.

Sesay noted that the project will supply power to Western Rural in communities such as Newton, Kissi Town, Tombo, Lumpa, and some parts of Waterloo.

A representative from the implementing company Niu Junwei, said they are expecting fifty more containers. He stated that the materials are of high quality. He assured all the project would be completed by March next year.

The Western Area Network Rehabilitation Project according to the Ministry’s Communication expert Austine Lusinie has already begun
