It has been hinted FORUM that the man that president Julius Maada Bio installed as acting head of the Audit Service Sierra Leone (ASSL) after he suspended the Auditor General Lara Taylor-Pearce and her deputy, Tamba Momoh, in the person of Abdul Aziz is now desperately lobbying for him to be named the substantive head of the audit service.
It must be noted that according to sources, Mr Abdul Aziz’s term of tenure as tentative head of the institution comes to an end in September 2024 before which he is expected to write a letter to that effect.
However, we have been reliably informed that contrary to expectation, Mr Abdul Aziz has written his principals not only seeking an extension of his tenure but for him to also be appointed to occupy the substantive position of Auditor General of Sierra Leone.
Our sources hinted that not only is Mr Abdul Aziz not qualified for the position, we are told that he is unequal to the task. That aside, we are informed that Mr Abdul Aziz, who will be 60 years of age by September this year should be expecting to retire instead of seeking to further his tenure, which would also make him to fall short on this requirement to stay employed in the service of the government of Sierra Leone.
While the Public Accounts Committee of the House of the Sixth Parliament headed by its chairman and Deputy Speaker Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh has been questioning public officials based on the Auditor General’s Report of 2022, this medium has been reminded that the international body of supreme auditors had said they will not respect any report from auditors at ASSL citing how Lara Taylor-Pearce and Tamba Momoh were removed from office.
