As Sierra Leone moves closer to the 2028 general elections, one of the biggest questions dominating political conversations is: Who will be the next Presidential candidate (flagbearer) of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC)? The race for the party’s leadership is heating up, with several prominent figures emerging as potential candidates to lead the APC to the next electoral cycle.

One of the key contenders for the flagbearer position is Sheik Mohamed Kamara, popularly known as Jagaban. His supporters believe that he embodies the leadership qualities necessary to unify the APC and drive national development.

They argue that under his leadership, the party could experience renewed energy, stability, and progress.

Recently, Sierra Leone All-Stars President, Milton Koker aka Collabo, publicly endorsed Jagaban, calling on all APC supporters and Sierra Leoneans to rally behind him.

Collabo emphasized the need for unity under Jagaban’s leadership to restore hope, dignity, and the betterment of the country as the nation heads to the polls in 2028.

Another prominent name in the race is Ady Macauley, a legal expert and a well-known figure within the APC.

His supporters see him as a leader who represents a generational shift in Sierra Leone’s political landscape. They argue that his ideas, creativity, and commitment to fostering a secure and enabling environment makes him the right choice to lead the party into the future. Macauley’s team has launched a campaign that includes initiatives like “The Lawyers’ Cocktail Evening,” an event designed to engage legal minds and strategize quietly about the future of the APC.

Former Vice President Alhaji Samuel Sidique Sam-Sumana is also in the running for the APC flagbearer position. Having once served as Vice President and later breaking away to form the Coalition for Change (C4C), Sumana’s political journey has been eventful. His C4C party gained significant support in the 2018 elections, winning parliamentary seats.

However, Sumana has since returned to the APC, expressing his readiness to lead the party once again.

His experience, political resilience, and grassroots appeal makes him a formidable contender in the race.

As the 2028 elections approach, more political heavyweights are expected to declare their intentions to vie for the APC top position.

The party will undoubtedly witness intense competition as aspirants attempt to convince the party hierarchy and grassroots supporters of their suitability for leadership.

Whoever emerges as the APC Presidential candidate will face the critical task of challenging the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in what is expected to be a highly competitive election.

With the high cost of living, concerns about governance, and political tensions on the rise, the APC is positioning itself as the alternative for Sierra Leoneans who seek change.

However, the success of the party in 2028 will largely depend on selecting the right leader, one who can unify the party, energize supporters, and present a clear vision for the country’s future.

The big question remains: Who will get the APC’s ticket to contest against the SLPP government? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the battle for the flagbearer position will be one of the most intriguing and closely watched political contests in the coming years.
