As Sierra Leone prepares for the next general election, the All People’s Congress (APC) faces an important decision. The 2026 flagbearer convention will help define the direction of the party and determine whether it is ready to offer a serious alternative to the current leadership.
Dr. Ibrahim Bangura has steadily positioned himself as one of the most capable and respected aspirants within the party. His campaign has been defined by discipline, consistency, and a quiet determination to restore credibility in the APC’s leadership process.
He has spent years focusing on institutional reform, party-building, and public service. Those supporting him believe in his approach to leadership, which is methodical and grounded in long-term goals rather than political theatrics.
Dr. Bangura relates well to different sectors of the APC and the broader Sierra Leonean population. His engagements have included traditional leaders, youth activists, grassroots organizers, and diaspora professionals. The central theme of his message has remained unity, order, and renewal within the party.
He has often emphasized the need to rebuild trust and cooperation among APC members. This includes restoring internal dialogue, encouraging mutual respect, and creating space for all voices to be heard within the movement.
The APC has gone through periods of internal friction which have weakened its public standing. The next leader must be someone who can rise above divisions and take the necessary steps to bring people back to the same table. Dr. Bangura’s calm and measured style has shown that he is capable of managing this responsibility.
In addition to his work in the party, Dr. Bangura brings valuable international experience. He has worked with respected institutions such as ECOWAS, the African Union, the United Nations, and the European Union. His work has focused on peacebuilding, governance, and justice sector reform. These roles have placed him at the center of important policy conversations across the West African region.
The APC now has an opportunity to present a candidate who reflects maturity, competence, and strategic thinking. As the debate continues and the convention approaches, the party must look carefully at the qualities needed in a national leader. Dr. Ibrahim Bangura has shown, through both his career and conduct, that he is prepared for that responsibility.
