Twenty-three (23) year old Musu Sinnah on Thursday 13th October, 2022 sentenced to twenty (20) years imprisonment by Hon. Justice Ivan Ansumana Sesay at High Court No1 in Freetown.The convict was found guilty by the court for stabbing her husband with a knife thereby making him bleed to death. Hon Justice Sesay in his submission stated that the accused was standing trial on a count of manslaughter contrary to law and the indictment indicated that the accused on 24 May, 2021 in Freetown murdered Aruna Kamara.
He said it is the duty of the prosecution to prove the guilty of the accused beyond reasonable doubt, adding that the new punishment for manslaughter is that the accused can be sentenced from one to twenty-five years imprisonment.
He said the prosecution called five witnesses including the government pathology Dr. Simeon Owizz Koroma. He added that the second prosecution witness Binta Jalloh who testified that she knew the deceased and the accused as they were all living in the same compound.
The witness said on that day she heard the deceased shouting “Aaa Musu “ and she immediately rushed to the scene and met the deceased lying in a pool of blood and she shouted and neighbours rushed at the scene.
Binta continued that the accused after stabbing the deceased throw the knife at the back of their house and the police officers found the knife and took it to the police station.
Hon Justice Ivan Sesay stated that the prosecution had closed their case the accused relied on her statements she made to the police. Justice Ivan continued that the accused in her statement admitted that she stabbed the deceased with a knife, adding that there was a fight between her and the deceased.
The judge furthered that the shirt, knife and slippers of the deceased were found in a pool of blood and they were tendered before the court as exhibits.
He said the autopsy report from the government pathology showed that the deceased was stabbed with a two centimetre long knife and the death was unnatural neither accidental nor suicidal and the death was cause as a result of the stab.
Justice Ivan stated that he has concluded that the prosecution has proved their case beyond reasonable doubt and the accused is guilty of the offence of manslaughter.
