Sewa Eagles Football Club have emerged as champions of the 5th edition of the prestigious COW Trophy after a resounding 4–1 victory over Kakua United in the grand final. The thrilling encounter, played in front of an enthusiastic crowd, showcased the Eagles’ dominance, resilience, and attacking prowess.
Despite falling behind in the 13th minute, Sewa Eagles responded swiftly. Just two minutes later, they found the equalizer, regaining momentum and seizing control of the match. Alhaji Turay, the tournament’s standout performer, soon doubled the lead, adding to his impressive goal tally and cementing his place as the tournament’s top scorer with seven goals.
Turay’s impact was undeniable. His clinical finishing, intelligent movement, and leadership on the pitch not only led his team to glory but also earned him two major individual honours — the Golden Boot and the Best Player of the Tournament award. His consistent brilliance throughout the competition made him a fan favourite and a focal point of praise from coaches and spectators alike.
The grand final was a display of complete dominance by the Eagles. Their fluid attacking play, coordinated teamwork, and solid defensive structure left Kakua United struggling to cope. Kakua, who were also defeated by Sewa Eagles 3–1 in the group stage, once again found themselves outmatched, despite taking an early lead.
Turay had also scored twice in that earlier group match, underlining his importance to the Eagles’ campaign from start to finish.
Leading the team to victory was head coach Osman Jabbie, popularly known as Coach Pawpaw, who was recognized as the Best Coach of the Tournament. His tactical acumen, motivational leadership, and ability to get the best out of his players were instrumental in the team’s success. Coach Pawpaw’s contribution has further elevated his reputation as one of the brightest coaching minds in regional football.
The COW Trophy final not only marked a major milestone for Sewa Eagles but also underscored their growing status as a force to be reckoned with in southern regional football. The victory brought home not just the glory of the title but also customized gold medals, a significant cash prize, and the tournament’s iconic symbol — the giant cow.
The 2025 edition of the COW Trophy was organized by Ultimate Sport Promoters, a group widely acknowledged for their excellence in managing sporting events across the Southern Region. Their coordination, planning, and commitment to grassroots football development continue to raise the standard of regional tournaments.
This year’s tournament was played in honor of SLFA presidential aspirant Babadi Kamara, whose continued support and contributions to football in Sierra Leone have been well recognized. The success of the COW Trophy once again highlighted the passion for football at the grassroots level and the potential that exists within Sierra Leone’s regional clubs and talent pool.
