In a landmark event marking a significant advancement in Sierra Leone’s agricultural sector, Sierratec Secure, a distinguished private agro-tech enterprise, formally launched a comprehensive range of modern farm machinery under a strategic government-supported credit facility. The official unveiling took place at Lungi Acre, Bombali District, drawing key stakeholders from government institutions, the private sector, farmer cooperatives, and the development community.
The initiative, realized through a credit facility championed by the Government of Sierra Leone via the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, is designed to enhance mechanized farming and drive national efforts towards food security and agricultural sustainability. The credit program enables farmers to access high-quality machinery like tractors and accessories, and others that are key towards mechanised farming.
The Chief Executive Officer of Sierratec Secure, Sallieu Kanu, underscored the company’s vision of transforming agricultural practices in Sierra Leone through innovative technology and sustainable partnerships.
He went on to say that he is proud to support the Government’s agenda of agricultural transformation through the Feed Salone Project, a launch that is not only a milestone for Sierratec Secure but a pivotal moment for every farmer striving to increase productivity and embrace modern farming solutions.
The newly introduced equipment includes nine high-performance tractors which have increased Sierratec’s fleet of machines to a total of fifteen.
The event attracted several dignitaries, including traditional leaders. Paramount Chief of Makari Chiefdom where Sierratec Company is largely cultivating, assured government that his chiefdom is endowed with tens of thousands of arable lands especially “bolly lands” which have the potential to transform the agriculture sector in the country.
PC Bai Makarie N’kolo II called on government continued support to Sierratec to fight hunger not only in Bombali District but the country at large.
Other speakers from Sierra Leone Agriculture Research Institute and other agriculture related agencies applaud the company’s commitment to transform the sector through mechanization and the use of high quality seeds with high yield.
Delivering the keynote address, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka, lauded the initiative as a model example of public-private collaboration in national development.
He further stated that the partnership signifies a bold step towards achieving national goals of food self-sufficiency and rural empowerment.
Mechanization is central to unlocking the full potential of the agricultural sector, Dr. Kpaka stated.
As the current President is a retired Brigadier General, he jokingly referred to Sierratec’s CEO as a general in agriculture due to his massive investment in the sector, contribution to food security and creation of employment opportunities for many young people.
Farmers and community leaders present at the event welcomed the initiative, noting its potential to alleviate labor-intensive farming and significantly boost yields.
