Alhaji Kamara, a twenty-seven-year-old student, Tuesday, 3rd December 2024, made his first appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of the Pademba Road Court No.2 in Freetown on a count of Larceny in a dwelling house contrary to Section 13 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of offence, on 27th October 2024 at 4 kebe Drive- Juba Hill in Freetown the Western Area, with intent to steal, the accused broke into the dwelling house of Alhaji Issa Catco Kamara and stole therein one Z fold mobile phone, two Samsung galaxy A24 mobile phones, one iPhone phone Fourteen Plus, assorted electronics items and other assorted items equivalent to the sum of five hundred and sixteen thousand, four hundred New Leones (516,400), property of Alhaji Issa Catco Kamara.
When the charge was read and explained to the accused person, no plea was given.
The state prosecutor, Sergeant 8811 Florence M. Wilson, led in prosecution witness number two, a worker at the complainant’s supermarket, Abdul Kabia, who knows the accused person as his cousin, the complainant, his uncle.
He recalled what happened on the 27th October 2024 between the accused and the complainant, adding that the witness revealed that the complainant arrived from the United States of America and asked him to go to the floor where he resided; and that upon his arrival, he observed that the complainant’s safe was damaged.
Kabia noted that one particular day when he was downstairs, he heard some banging noises upstairs; and upon hearing the sound, he went there and found the accused with a hammer and chisel sometime in September 2024.
He said he saw the accused person with boxes; and when he asked him where he got them from, he said the accused told him that it was the complainant who had sent him, but at that time the complainant was in America.
The witness said he made a statement at the Congo Cross Police Station.
The witness was cross-examined by the accused person.
Magistrate Bangura refused bail and sent the accused person to the male correctional facility in Freetown.
The case was adjourned to 10th of December 2024 for further proceedings.
