The President of the Women’s Forum Sierra Leone, (WFSL), the national women’s umbrella organization in the country, Mrs. Sallay Adams on Saturday 8th April 2023 informed this medium in an exclusive interview at her Dundas street headquarters in Freetown that WFSL, in partnership with the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) and funded by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) or partnership agreement to appeal to registered women voters to collect their voter identity cards.
She enlightened that the agreement is to appeal to women, especially first-time voters, female youths and eighteen years and above to collect their voter identity cards at their various registration centers nationwide that would enable them to vote in the June 24th, 2023, elections.
Mrs. Sallay Adams reiterated that the WFSL and its National Executives are appealing to women, especially first-time voters, female youths and eighteen years and above to collect their voter identity cards from 7th– 16th April 2023 from 7am-5pm daily underscoring that they must remember that voting is their right and civic responsibility and that rights go with responsibilities as part of their contribution to national development.
The WFSL President furthered that it is also the human rights of every citizen to come out and vote during elections for improved social services, infrastructural development among others reiterating that all women who registered must go and collect their voter identification cards that would enable them vote during the elections and appealed to all women to be disciplined and not to engage in any acts of violence for a peaceful, credible and transparent elections.
The aims and objectives of WFSL are the advancement of the status of women, the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of girls and young women in Sierra Leone while their vision visualizes a Sierra Leone in which women in all parts of the country, irrespective of tribe, religion, culture, education or status are empowered to access available opportunities to develop their talents and qualities in a violent free and peaceful environment, where women and children’s rights are respected and protected.

The general objective of WFSL is to promote a platform for building effective alliances among women, by sharing information and ideas on current and emerging issues of common concern to women in Sierra Leone, taking collective action on issues affecting women and children.
