Following the end of polling in most of Nigeria on Saturday, the  Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), has on Sunday evening, February 26, 2023, received its Long Term Observers (LTOs) from the field. Welcoming the LTOs at the ECOWAS Secretariat in Abuja, the Head Of Mission (HoM) of the ECOWAS Elections Observer Mission (EOM), former Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma, extolled the observers for their extraordinary work and sacrifices saying: “you were our foot soldiers who actually did the observation. In doing so, you made supreme sacrifices inspite of the security threats.”

The ECOWAS HoM thanked the observers for their hard work and selflessness in supporting the ECOWAS mission, Nigeria and Africa.

“Thank you most sincerely for your selflessness and individual efforts to support this Mission, Nigeria and our region,” he said.

The former Sierra Leonean president informed that the essence of the debriefing was to “consolidate and harmonise our observation so that the report ECOWAS will be putting out will be of quality and will reflect what transpired during the elections process.

He reiterated that ECOWAS will continue to support Nigeria and the rest of Africa in halting the democratic backsliding West African region is experiencing.
