In a strong demonstration of grassroots engagement, the Minister of Youth Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Sannoh, visited the vibrant communities of Belgium, Peters Brook, and King Jimmy — collectively known as BBK — to hold direct conversations with young people and assess their immediate needs.
The visit, part of the Ministry’s ongoing nationwide youth outreach program, provided an open platform for community youth to express both their concerns and aspirations. Minister Sannoh was warmly welcomed by enthusiastic residents as he walked through the neighborhoods, holding frank discussions with youth leaders and community members.
“This is not just about appearances. It’s about action,” the Minister stated during one of the interactive sessions. “We’re here to listen, to learn, and to plan with you, not for you.”
Among the key issues raised by young people in BBK were access to vocational skills training, employment opportunities, safe recreational spaces, and increased support for community-driven development projects. Minister Sannoh assured the youth that their input would directly inform upcoming national youth development strategies and resource allocations.
“Young people must be part of the national conversation. You are not waiting for opportunities; you’re demanding them. And we’re here to deliver together,” Minister Sannoh emphasized.
The visit was widely praised by residents, many of whom described it as one of the most genuine and impactful interactions with government leadership in recent years. As the Ministry of Youth Affairs continues its engagement across Sierra Leone, the BBK community visit stands as a model for inclusive, responsive, and participatory youth-centered governance.
