The youth in Sierra Leone are badly influenced by the high intake of harmful substances that has led to the rapid derailment of the lives of the youth. So many youth in Sierra Leone are actively involved in the high intake of the substances known as Kush [fake weed], tramadol, marijuana, ‘glady glady’ and so many and so forth. These substances when taken by these youth put them in a narcotic state where they themselves cannot actually explain the high sense of feelings that will be passing through their minds whilst intoxicating their brain. The excessive intake of these inimical substances has caused a lot of brain damage to these once important youths who have been left in the lurch their family members and loved ones due to their new found habit.
The fake weed substance known as kush has impaired the lives of youth and has made the lives of some important young men to be one of shame within their communities, families, friends and loved ones. The substance called kush is all over the place in Sierra Leone is rampantly taken by young guys and ladies, boys and girls as well as among respectable persons of high caliber and political stake. It is also taken by office workers in both civil and private service and due to its odorless scent some Boss men even take it whilst they in their offices with fully air conditioned.
Taking kush was not seen as bad thing during the inception, because some kush addicts said the substance gives them an relentless appetite to whatever sort of food, whilst some old folks were saying that that fake weed makes them to have a deep long sleep at night. Among some young ladies kush was taken as a drug to cool them off. Ladies are more in the intake of kush than the guys. Mostly when I witnessed some of friends birthday hangout all of the ladies around will be smoking this highly chemical full substance which they believe after a draw of two will move them away from their somber mood to a world referred to as ‘mad world’. It is during this moment you will see a lady or a guy behaves senselessly than when he or she is in his or her complete sense of being. The fake substance kush has made so many young men to involve in vagrancy as cannot get along with any decent jobs neither could some of them being employed by any decent workplace. Some youth involved in taking kush are having their first degrees from recognized universities but the lack of employment and the low rate work force in this country has hindered their goals towards a better life after college. Those who are passive and addictive smokers of kush hardly concern about their outward appearance owing to the fact that life will change for them some way or someday. One who is highly addictive will take up NLe50 without him or her without knowing the damage being cause to his or her health. This chemical drug will make one vomit unceasingly as it is man-made so it is processed with whatever the dealer thinks might get it stronger and ready for daily human consumption. It is a drug which has drastically impinge the health and energy of able bodied youths there were once agile and fit for the working force. These set of men can no longer fend for themselves unless grouping to engage in daily begging. Kush has reduced the economic status of some youth involve in business as these people no longer have business capital to go along with their daily business chores. This derailing drug has left so many hopeful youth hopeless with a dim future.
However some concern citizens have pointed fingers at the current government for not curtailing the use of this harmful substance. These citizens are calling on the government to place a high ban and severe capital punishment for defaulters but some have said it will all prove fruitless. These citizens noticed that there are set of bigwigs in the current who are the front runners of this drug syndicate and that the most unforeseen sight is when the police are not doing any effective arrest in those areas where the intake of this deadly substance is taken whilst some are even questioning the presence of the Anti-drug department of the police.
Some women whose lives have been endangered by guys taking kush are calling on the membership of the police force to curtail the spread of this drug.
