Salamatu Conteh a 21 year old pupil was on Thursday 14 September 2023 sent to prison by Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Court No1 for the alleged murder of Musa Dumbuya her uncle.The accused made her first appearance in court and was arraigned on one count of Murder contrary to section 1 of the offences against the persons act 1816 as repealed and replaced by the Abolition of death penalty Act 2021 Act No 6 of 2022.
According to the charge, the accused Salamatu Conteh on Sunday 15 July 2023, at No 28 Sumalia Town Freetown murdered Musa Dumbuya. When the charge was read and explained to her, no plea was taken.
The Prosecutor ASP Dahlia Wellington requested for an adjournment on the basis that her witnesses were absent and therefore could not proceed with the matter.
Magistrate Ngegba remanded the accused in prison and adjourned the matter to the 22 September 2023 for further hearing. Lawyer J. Smith Esq was representing the accused in court.
According to a brief fact of the matter, the incident was reported by one Mary Samura wife of the deceased. It was reported that the accused used a pen knife to stab the deceased after an argument ensured between them.
