Dear Mayor

I want to first of all congratulate you on your reelection as Mayor of the Freetown Municipality. I pray for the protection and guidance of God in dispensation of your duties.

I want to draw your attention to the current state of cemeteries across your jurisdiction with specificity on the Race Course cemetery around the Upgun area in the immediate East end of Freetown.

The Race Course cemetery has been transformed to not only a brothel for commercial sex workers but also as an abbatoir for slaughtering young girls during nocturnal hours. The state of the Race Course Cemetery and others need your keen attention, if not, the situation will go out of your hands, and your leadership will be sabotaged. Race Course cemetery is a well-known ground for commercial sex workers, gambling drug addiction snd other anti social vices which is gross disrespect to the dead and a taboo as per the norms of our society.

Just this morning, Monday, 27th November,2023, a female corpse was found at Race Course cemetery, and that is the third murder, all females, in six years as far as my memory could serve me.

Your worship, almost all the cemeteries within Freetown, have also been transformed into drug cartels where the synthetic drug called Kush is top among the drugs taken in those places. I want to crave your indulgence for you to use your good office to engage the families that owned the Race Course cemetery and see how best that place can be fenced to avert the menaces taking place there.

It is the same with the Circular Road cemetery which is now a domestic dwelling place for some people as houses have been constructed there. Madam Mayor, a cemetery should not have two entrance and there should not be a ‘shot-cut’ route in a cemetery. It is as a result of the free access to cemeteries that hoodlums are opening graves and removing bones for the oral titration of the kush concentrate colloquially referred to as “Jagaban’. The Circular Road cemetery has not only been transformed into a dweling place, but also as a works yard for some bricks manufacturers.

I want you to engage the relevant authorities including the central government for all cemeteries in Freetown to be well fenced without access roads for the dead to continue resting in peace.

Race Course cemetery should be of utmost concern.

Thank in anticipation
