Twenty-six people are reported to have been arrested by the Police at various All People’s Congress lower level election centres, disclosed Head of Sierra Leone Police Media, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Brima Kamara.
Assistant Commissioner Kamara Tuesday 17th January made the disclosure during |the SLP’s weekly press conference held at the Sierra Leone Police Headquarters on George Street in Freetown.
He said twenty-six suspects are currently in police custody in connection with violence and disorderly conducts during the APC party lower level elections at separate constituencies and wards within the country.
Assistant Commissioner Kamara said that based on level of the seriousness of the situation, Police made timely interventions and executed some arrests, adding that eight people were arrested at Masiaka in Port Loko district, North-West fifteen in Kono in the east and three at Kambia also in the North-West, amounting to twenty-six (26) suspects, perpetrating violence conducts during the APC party lower level elections, who are being investigated by the Police.
In a related development, Assistant Commissioner Kamara further informed journalists that the SLP is currently engaged in massive rehabilitations and constructions of Police facilities that were vandalized by rioter across the country during the August 10th 2022 violent demonstration.
He said Police facilities including stations in Bonthe and Mattru-Jong are 70% completed, adding that the Bamoi Luma Police Station in Kambia which was burnt and destroyed in 2014 has been rehabilitated and it is now fully functional.
“SLP stations that were destroyed during the August 10th 2022 demonstration are now under rehabilitations. The Kambia Police Station is now 90% completed, he disclosed.
