Freetown, 11th October 2022: The Freetown City Council (FCC) has on Tuesday 11th October, 2022 hosted the Freetown Waste Transformers (FWT) to discuss how both institutions can collaborate in rolling out a media campaign on sanitation in the Freetown Municipality.Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyer emphasized on the importance of such collaboration and reiterated that media and community engagement activities are integral in promoting behavioral change on sanitation.
Mayor Aki-Sawyer commended FWT for a job well done in working to introduce a paradigm shift (with the use of technology) to change Sierra Leone’s waste collection narrative. She said the Council was excited about the prospect of a new waste collection mobile app that is being developed by FWT.
“Communication to support sanitation is critical… Its all about changing mindsets and I believe we will suceed if we continue to engage at all levels.” she averred.
FWT’s Chief Executive Officer, Ami Dumbuya Jarr gave a brief overview of the FWT project and asked that FCC staff present gave their inputs on the proposed media and community engagement activities as well the first draft of video animation for public sensitization
