The Sierra Leone senior national male team Leone Stars is set to return to continental action as the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualification has been scheduled to resume in March this year.
Following a shift in the fixtures owing to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Sierra Leone has been scheduled to host her São Toméan counterpart on Wednesday the 22nd of March 2023 with the return leg expected to play Forty-Eight hours later.
Both matches have been confirmed to take place in Agadir, a city along Morocco’s southern Atlantic Coast after frantic efforts by the SLFA to host the said matches at the Southern Arena in Bo City in Sierra Leone proved futile as a result of the many processes involved in getting CAF’s approval for a newly constructed stadium.
The processes however continue as the newly built southern home of football remains hopeful of hosting CAF and FIFA-sanctioned matches in the nearest future.
Sierra Leone currently sits at third of Group A with a single point, with two matches played but hopes for a leap after facing São Tomé and Principe back-to-back in a month from now to keep the Nation’s hopes of qualifying for the AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast in February next year.
