The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the Accra 2023 African Para Games was officially inaugurated on Friday, February 24, 2023, by the Youth and Sports Minister, Hon. Mustapha Ussif and Chris Boadi-Mensah, the Chairman of LOC who head leads Africa to the first ever multi-sport Para Games.
Members of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) includes Dr. Chris Boadi-Mensah-Chairman, Bella Bello Bitugu as Director of Sports, Juliana Addo-Yobo-Legal Director, Reksbrobby-Director of Operations Services, Henry Tachie-Menson-Director, Saddick Adams-Communications, Gifty Afia Oware Aboagye-Director of Marketing, Osman Ali-Director of Finance, Eric Kissi-Member of NPC Ghana and Dr. Hayat Khattab as Member of AfPC.
The competition will commence from 3rd to 12th September 2023 with forty-eight (48) African Countries.
The African Paralympic Committee is poised to deliver the ‘Stand Alone Multi-Sport Para Events for Athletes, which doubles as qualification for the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
Speaking at the Home of the African Paralympic Committee (AfPC) Secretariat inaugurated in Accra, Hon. Mustapha Ussif said the appointment and eventual inauguration of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) today is a vital indication that our nation, under the able leadership of the President of the Republic Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is anxiously ready and prepared to do successfully.
I do not doubt that the Chairman and his members of the LOC will do their maximum best to mobilize all the resources required for the nation to successfully host the thousands of athletes, coaches and team officials from all 55 countries in Africa as well as hundreds of dignitaries and volunteers from the rest of the world in Ghana as a test event for the 13th African Games.
Regional Games of this magnitude can only be successfully planned, implemented and delivered with the support and collaboration of all stakeholders, institutions, organizations, partners, sponsors, philanthropists and individuals. Therefore, as a result of this, I am inviting all and sundry to join the Ministry of Youth and Sports as we seek to make history by delivering a memorable first-ever Africa Para Games in the annals of African Para Sports and the Paralympic Movement in Africa”.
Meanwhile, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) unveiled a new logo for the upcoming 2023 African Para. The logo has the Africa map embedded in it, with the red and yellow colours of the African Paralympic Committee. It has the Ghana flag placed where the country is situated on the map.
Samson Deen, President of the African Paralympic Committee (AfPC) and National Paralympic Committee (NPC Ghana), whose initiative and proposal for Ghana to host the event was backed by the President of Ghana, HE Nana Akuffo-Addo expressed that organizing the first African Para Games is “doable” a quote made by His Excellency Nana Addo on 5th January 2022 when the President of IPC Andrews Parsons paid a courtesy call on him at the seat of government. He was optimistic that the LOC Accra2023 Para Games would deliver.
He promised the AfPC will deliver the ‘Stand Alone Multi-Sport Para Events for Athletes also seek qualification for the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
