High Court Judge Hon. Justice Monfred Sesay has on 1st March 2023, convicted John Alie to seven years imprisonment for housebreaking contrary to Section 25 (1) 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
The convict was before the court on one count charge of housebreaking and larceny contrary Act of 1916 and Section 13 (a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particular offence the convict, on Tuesday 29th September 2020 entered the resident of Samuel Karkey Conteh in Freetown and stole property value at Two Million Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand old Leones (Le 2,350,000,000).
In his ruling, Hon. Justice Sesay noted that the convict Alie on the night of the incident was noticed by the complaint’s daughter at the back of the compound around 2:00 am.
He explained that the plaintiff’s daughter called for help but the convict defected her.
Hon Justice Sesay continued that prosecution witnesses have proven beyond all reasonable doubt against the convict person, adding that according to Section 25 (1) 2 and 13(a) of 1916 Larcreny Act sentenced is seven years imprisonment.
In his plea for and on behalf of the convict, Defence lawyer R.S. Bangura Esq from Legal Aid Board stressed that the convict is a young man with a lot of potentials.
He pleaded with the Bench to temper justice with mercy but the accused was convicted to seven years imprisonment.
