The Country Programme Manager of the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, Naomi Wagura, has called on Sierra Leone’s Energy Minister, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, and reassured government of Energy Alliance’s commitment towards contributing to Sierra Leone’s burgeoning energy space.Madam Wagura informed the Minister that the Alliance, which has its regional hub in Nairobi, Kenya, was launched last year and was now funded by three different foundations.
She furthered that Sierra Leone was one of the nine countries where GEAPP was going to roll out initiatives or projects, noting that they had used the past couple of months to solicit in-country support from many partners.
Madam Wagura said she was now happy to report to the Minister that the Alliance had now got the support it was looking for.
In his remarks, Energy Minister, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, warmly welcomed the delegation to Sierra Leone and said that the country was now an investment-friendly country in every aspect of development. He said he was delighted to learn that Sierra Leone was going to benefit from a good number of the Alliance’s initiatives.
Alhaji Sesay said he had heard so many good things about GEAPP and reassured the delegation of government’s readiness through his ministry to provide the Alliance with the necessary support and partnership.
He talked to the Programme Manager and the team through the many capital intensive energy projects that the Government of Sierra Leone and other private partners had undertaken, adding that he was looking forward to seeing GEAPP massively invest in the energy space in the country.
GEAPP’s Sierra Leone’s Project Consultant, Jasmin Roberts, said she had done some groundwork to foster collaboration between her Alliance and the Government and other partners.
The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, GEAPP, seeks to change energy for good and to alter the trajectory of the climate crisis. The Rockefeller Foundation and its partners are investing $10 billion to establish The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet.
