The Freetown Waste Transformers (#FWT) presented certificates of participation and cash prizes to the top 3 waste collectors who had done most waste collection through DortiBox waste app.
The competition was first announced on Thursday, 23rd February 2023 during a training workshop hosted at the new City Hall in Freetown, as part of FWT’s preparedness for launching the first ever digital waste management tool, #DortiBox waste app in Sierra Leone.
The competition targeted waste collectors in Block 8 who service waste collection needs of residents in Aberdeen, Wilkinson Road, and Lumley, where FWT had done the first beta testing phase of its product #DortiBox waste app.
The three winners were:
1st position Kamayama Development Organisation – received Le 1,500
2nd position Med-Z Waste Management – received Le 1,000
3rd position LeoFac Waste Management – received Le 750
The competition was done in collaboration with the Freetown City Council #FCC and the Waste Collectors Management Association #WCMA in a drive to #transformFreetown’s waste management infrastructure.
FWT’s CEO, Aminata Dumbuya affirmed that the competition for the most waste collection among the waste collectors during the beta testing is part of FWT’s efforts to encourage active and efficient waste collection service and to solidify reliability in their work.
The winners described the competition as a laudable and enticing approach by FWT, profiling the sector as an enviable space for more come onboard. They extend appreciation to FWT for such an initiative and promise to do all they can to ensure that the #transformFreetown initiative becomes.
