SLPWA Holds Peaceful March

The Sierra Leone Police Wives Association (SLPWA) in Collaboration with other sister forces, Saturday, 10th June 2023 held a peaceful streets march in Freetown against violence for June 24 elections.

The peaceful elections march began from Up-Gun to Sierra Leone Police Headquarters, George Street, Freetown.

Delivery her opening remarks, President of the Association,  Maltina Doris Sellu said, they have organized the procession on the streets of Freetown to raise awareness on violence activities during and after elections.

She said even though police personnel are human’s charge with the duty of protecting lives and properties of the citizens in a given state does not implies they should be killed.

She continued, some individuals are always yearning for them to be killed and therefore entreated all and sundry to disassociate from such practice and though.

According to her, the association values men and women in police uniform and she desires others to do likewise.

She disclosed that police officers are not politicians and equally don’t want any life to be taken as a result of violence.

She called on citizens to desist from challenging the police, by taking unlawful streets parades resulting to unpleasant activities on streets.

She reminded the gathering some of their husbands have died in violence activities. “We don’t want such activities repeats itself again in our country'”.

Representative, Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Force (SLAF) stated elections are not a do or die activities, called for deeper love for one another and country.

 

“We want everyone to stay away from violent activities during and after elections”, SLAF warned.

SLAF Rep. revealed if violence occurs the international community will blame them.

Representative of the National Fire Force appealed to countrymen to meaningfully contribute to nation building, since it is the only Sierra Leone citizens can call their own.

Deputy Inspector General of police (IGP), Augustine Kailie advised citizens to stay out from violence activities during and after elections.

He recalled the war and its negative impact on the country, is more than justify why we should refrain from violence activities to prevent its reemergence, he encouraged.

 

Deputy Inspector General assured the elections will be peaceful across regions of the country.

He admonished citizens not to yield   to advices from persons that have the potential to cause unrest.
