Saint Monica Lady’s Auxiliary No. 408 St. Martin’s Parish, last Saturday 6th June 2020, donated assorted food items worth millions of Leones to sisters of the Auxiliary, at the church’s compound on Blackhall Road east of Freetown.

 

The items include a bag of rice and Le. 150,000 each to large number sick and aged sisters identified from among the St. Monica Auxiliary No. 408.

Speaking during the donations, Reverend Father James Afo of St. Martin’s Parish said charity is part of the Catholic Church’s religious traditions. He encouraged members of the St. Monica Auxiliary No. 408 to be always kind to their sisters and continue to give out to their needy compatriots.

 

Respected President St Monica Lady’s Auxiliary, No. 408 Commandeering 1 of St. Martin’s Parish, Waltina Kallon recalled few days before the donations they were at the Parish for the donation of toiletries to their priests and sisters of the Auxiliary.

 

She prayed for provisions the various donors and for their pledges towards the meeting the needs of people who can’t afford their basic needs of their sisters and wished them God’s richest blessings.

 

She said normally they used to give out to the sick and aged from out of their fund but this time around they decided to take a different direction by making pledges and contributions from sisters of St. Monica Lady’s Auxiliary No. 408, to which good number of them impressively subscribed.

 

Respected Kallon disclosed that giving out to their sisters, the sick and the aged is part of their tradition especially when the pandemic is harshly impacting on the lives of people everywhere in the world.

 

She said a bag of rice and cash of Le. 150,000 were given to each beneficiary, adding that all recipients were very much appreciative for receiving the gestures.

 

On the continuing national efforts in fighting the COVID19 pandemic, Respected Kallon said she always caution sisters of St. Monica Lady’s Auxiliary No. 408 to stay safe, avoid over crowded places, practice regular hand washing, avoid body contacts and always mask up.

 

She passionately appealed to all to emulate the good examples of St. Monica Lady’s Auxiliary No. 408 to be always helpful to the needy.

 

Respected Worthy President, Commandeering 471 and Parish Chairman, Knight of St. John International, Mr Emmanuel T. Komba also underscored the significance of charity in working for humanity, saying that charity is part of their vows. He said with charity, they can always give hope to others.

 

Mr Komba said the gesture is in consistent with the concept of charity, as in the spirit of Knight of St. John and every member of their congregation, adding that charity also help to deepen their faith which is why they are all now dependent on faith.

 

He furthered that charity is also in consistent with faith and by giving out to the vulnerable especially during the COVID19 pandemic that is why they provided basic needs as food and cash for their compatriots.

 

Registering their various profound appreciations, recipients after the other thanked St. Monica Lady’s Auxiliary No. 408 for their goodwill gestures and prayed for more provisions for the donors.

 

The Catholic Church and the Mission as a whole is popularly known for its significant contributions towards national development and humanitarian assistance in the areas of education, health, and infrastructure.

 

Like it did during the civil war, mudslide and in the EVD outbreak the church has established of University of Mekeni, Catholic primary and secondary schools across the country as well as hospitals almost everywhere, fully involved in every developmental aspects of the country.
