The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) has on a broad daylight of Tuesday 27 June 2023 stolen the verdicts of the majority of Sierra Leoneans who voted on Saturday 24 June 2023 elections, by fraudulently announcing Julius Maada Bio of the Sierra Leone People’s Party as winner of the polls.
ECSL in so doing to please their paymaster exposed themselves and stand accused of complete lack of transparency, inclusivity, accountability in the electoral process under the watch of domestic and foreign observers.
In view of that, the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) leader and presidential candidate, Dr Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara registered his dissatisfactions and accused the leadership of the ECSL in live stream Facebook statement, even before the official announcement of the final presidential by the ECSL’s Mohamed K. Konneh.
Speaking in Freetown Dr Samura Kamara among scores of flaws highlighted by the APC, domestic and foreign observers, exposed ECSL and Konneh’s lack of transparency, inclusivity, accountability in the tabulation process of the presidential elections results.
The ECSL under the leadership of Mohamed Konneh has demonstrated lack of transparency, flout of international best practices, observed the APC presidential candidate, adding that the APC continues to reject the lack of ECSL and Konneh’s inclusivity.
He said NEW’s statement should serve as an alternative independent perspective of the variability of the outcome of the election, which we strongly believe favours the APC.
He added that Sierra Leoneans have endured untold suffering under the repressive Bio and SLPP regime.
The APC leader and presidential candidate said majority of Sierra Leoneans have on 24 June this year demonstrated that they cannot endure to suffer for another five more years of intimidation, oppression, violence and economic hardship.
“APC stands solidly behind the voice and the will of the people, for better life, peace and a united Sierra Leone,” he said and adds, “The APC leadership will stand by your strengths as you pressure for your voice to be heard and votes to be counted in a transparent manner.”
He on behalf of the APC count on domestic, foreign observers, the diplomatic missions in Sierra Leone and the international community to continue to stand by the majority voice, adding that the current situation in Sierra Leone is not just about the All People’s Congress but also about democracy.
Dr Samura Kamara said the poor principles of political leadership especially in stifling the rights of the people to elect their choice of leadership is unacceptable and should not happen under the watch of the international community.
However, the United States Embassy Freetown in their pre-result announcement twit, said, “Washington is keenly interested in the election outcome. The result must reflect the will of the Sierra Leonean people.” Similar sentiments were also expressed by United States Department for African Affairs.
