Rokel Commercial Bank (RCBANK) Eco-Tourism project which is aimed at sustainable tree planting in different parts of the country, will clack exactly three years in the third week of July 2022.

Three years ago RCBANK partnered with a local Non-Governmental Organization, Keeping Hope Alive and planted trees along the Bo/Masiaka Highway, as part of the bank’s effort to promoting biodiversity and eco-tourism in Sierra Leone.

As widely anticipated, the trees have grown to become an imposing landmark in an area that had completely lost its forest cover courtesy of decades of deforestation.

On the 21st of July, 2022, the Bank will celebrate the 3rd anniversary of that tree planting effort to encourage Sierra Leoneans and other institutions to engage in a similar venture as a sure way to prevent or mitigate the catastrophic or consequences of climate change. The Bank which has repositioned itself as a leader in the financial sector has remained highly committed to its corporate social responsibility. The sprawling trees at Petifu Kangalop have not only come to accentuate this commitment but have equally placed the Rokel Commercial Bank as a worthy contributor in government’s efforts in promoting responsible and sustainable environmental protection in Sierra Leone.

Acting Business Development and Marketing Manager, Mariama Jajua believes RCBANKs investment in biodiversity and eco-tourism will serve as a wake-up call to all and sundry; “As we redefine our relationship with the environment. She said that there is an existential relevance in protecting the environment and that the threats posed by poor environmental management must be altered by an equilibrium between “our daily needs and what nature provides.”

“Our tree planting project after Masiaka is just the beginning of many projects to complement government’s efforts in the promotion of safe and healthy environment for Sierra Leone,” she said.

The Managing Director, RCBANK, Dr Walton Ekundayo Gilpin said he is overwhelmed with pride to see a project he launched three years ago becoming a colossal success.

“We believe that protecting our environment is as critical as anything we do to achieve a safe and prosperous nation. We therefore encourage everyone out there to plant a tree and help save our planet,” averred Dr Walton Ekundayo Gilpin.
