Sierra Leone Parliament has on Wednesday 12 July 2023 conducted induction and orientation for Members of Parliament – MPs elect at Committee Room, Parliament Building, Tower Hill, Freetown.
The 2023 MPs’ induction and orientation which was implement by Parliament and its partners through the Office of the Clark of Parliament and the Director General, Centre for Strategy and Parliamentary Studies (CSPS).
The event was organized in three phases, but however key focus was placed around MPs’ registration.
According to source, the aim of the event was to meet the urgent capacity needs of MPs elect, whiles strengthening critical capacity gaps of former MPs to enhance overall Parliamentary competence.
Another objective highlighted was to enable MPs to navigate e-parliament systems to improve participation and engagements with citizens.
Increasing the knowledge and skills of newly elected MPs on critical areas around their roles, parliamentary process and procedures, the operations of committees to enable them function as effective MPs stand key.
The objective of the event also geared towards fostering awareness and understanding of the new corporate culture and reforms of parliament to enhance compliance with parliamentary regulations and the essential administrative and financial procedures.
The enhancement of functional capacity of MPs by introducing them to all the required support services at their disposal to enable them settle down quickly in parliament and form part of the objective for the induction and orientation event.
