Mohamed Jalloh and Foday Bangura who were arrested on 5 May, 2023 by Detective Sergeant 10037 Sellu S. have been arraigned before Magistrate Shark Kekura of the Ross Road Court No.1 in Freetown for allegedly conspiring with other unknown persons to rob Abdulai Conteh cash of Five Thousand Leones (NLe5, 000).
The accused appeared before the court on counts charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, robbery with aggravation, wounding with intent and assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to law.
It was alleged that the accused, on Tuesday 2 May, 2023 at Texaco Junction, Kissy in the East of Freetown, being armed with a knife and a scissors, robbed Abdulai Conteh a cash of NLe5, 000.
The police say the accused, on the same date and place conspired with unknown persons to commit a, felony to wit, robbery with aggravation.
The charge sheet furthered that both accused, on same date and place in Freetown, wounded and assaulted the complainant in a manner thereby causing him grievous bodily harm.
Led in evidence by Sergeant 9874 Turay M. M. formal witness, Mohamed Z. Kabba of Kissy, Freetown, a Detective Inspector attached to the Anti-Robbery Unit as a Supervisor one, at the Regional Ross Road Police Station, Harbour Division in Freetown, said he knew the complainant including the accused in respect of the matter. Kabba recalled Tuesday 2 May 2023.
He said on the day in question, he was on duty at the said police station at around 11pm when the complainant reported a matter against the accused.
Inspector Kabba Detective Sergeant 10037 Sellu S. issued the complainant with a police medical request form for treatment at the Rokupa Government Hospital in Wellington Freetown.
He said the complainant returned the endorsed medical paper to the station, which was produced and tendered to form part of the court’s records and on same day, he obtained statements from the complainant and witnesses respectively. He told the court that both accused were arrested by Detective Sergeant 1037 Sellu S. and brought into the station.
Witness on 3 May 2023, Detective Inspector Williams obtained a voluntary caution statement from the accused.
At this stage, the police prosecutor, Sergeant 9874 Turay M. M. sought for adjournment for her to have proper conference with her witness which was granted.
Magistrate Kekura denied the accused bail and remanded them at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown. The matter comes up again on 13 September, 2023.
