The Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Africell Sierra Leone, Shadi Gerjawi has said in a statement delivered at the official launching of the company’s fifth-generation (5G) cellular networks technology that the introduction of 5G is not just about faster internet.
Mr Gerjawi reassured all that the unveiling of the 5G network is aimed at redefining how Africell SL communicate, work, and thrive, adding that the 5G is about empowering students in remote areas to access education, every doctor conducting telehealth consultations, every entrepreneur starting a digital venture, and every citizen dreaming of a connected future.
The CEO and MD gave the assurance whiles addressing esteemed dignitaries, the media press and the Africell SL family at the company’s headquarters, Wilberforce, Freetown, where he expressed passionate believer in the transformative power of technology.
He recalled that when Africell SL started its journey in Sierra Leone, the network envisioned more than just being a telecom operator and however aspired to be the catalyst for change, bridging gaps, and helping Sierra Leoneans realize their dreams and potentials.
“In a nation where communication is paramount for social and economic growth, Africell SL has risen to the challenge. We have not only provided access to mobile networks, but have also continually strived to improve connectivity and services for the people of Sierra Leone,” said Mr Shadi Gerjawi.
He continued that Africell SL has been instrumental in connecting the unconnected, bridging the digital divide, and enabling millions of Sierra Leoneans to access the benefits of the digital age.
Through our innovative services and commitment to expanding our network coverage, he disclosed that Africell SL have played a pivotal role in enhancing education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship.
One of the remarkable aspects of Africell’s approach, the MD explained is the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility invested in various community development projects, including education, healthcare programmes, and youth empowerment.
This dedication to improving the quality of life for Sierra Leoneans goes beyond being just a telecommunications provider which he noted demonstrates Africell’s commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen.
“It feels like just yesterday when we embarked on this path with GSM two decades ago; a technology that introduced Sierra Leoneans to the world of mobile communication. From the simplicity of voice calls and text messages, we evolved to 3G, embracing faster data and clearer calls. Tonight, the MD further that Africell SL is unveiling its 5G trial and that the company is using the Central Business District as a demonstration and a test bed for customers and the many engineers that are working hard to learn about this new technology and have the needed exposure.
The MD furthered that Africell SL makes this vision a reality tonight and together Africell SL as a company takes a great leap towards digitalization.
