Parliamentary Press Gallery Pays Courtesy Call On Chief Immigration Officer

On Thursday 16th November 2023, Cross-section of Members of the Sierra Leone Parliamentary Press Gallery (SLPPG) paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Immigration Officer (CIO), Hon. Alusine Kanneh and congratulated him for his appointment by the President of Sierra Leone Dr. Rtd. Brigadier Julius Maada Bio.
Speaking on behalf of SLPPG Members, the Interim President, Lukulay Moses said the visit was to congratulate and appreciate Hon. Alusine Kanneh for his cordial relationship with journalists while he was a ranking lawmaker in the Fourth and Fifth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone.
Mr. Moses espoused that his entourage was a cross-session including executive members of the Gallery being a crop of Journalists that report mainly on Parliamentary activities and noted that the Gallery currently comprised fifty one members of both print and electronic media.
He asserted that the seasoned and erudite former Member of Parliament now the CIO represented his constituent well in the Fifth and Sixth Parliament and throughout those periods his relationship with journalists was mutual, healthy, cordial and terrific.
The Interim President said Hon.Kanneh’s appointment as the CIO is a breath of fresh air thus, one of apt appointment by the President Bio which signifies that the President is determined to deliver the deliverables, adding that the CIO has been a father figure whose doors have never been shut against journalists and beyond. “Your leadership and friendship have been terrific and sweet,” he said.
Mr. Moses further told the CIO that they would have visited long before that day but waited for due process. On that note, he expressed that they were in the office to thank and appreciate the Chief Immigration Officer for his diligent and transparent stewardship to the people of Sierra Leone.
This visit was crowned with presentation of gifts to the CIO by the President of the Sierra Leone Parliamentary Press Gallery on behalf of members.
In his response, Hon. Kanneh applauded the Press noting its pivotal role in the development of the country. The Immigration Boss explicitly responded that the idea was good and appreciated in good faith.
He expressed that journalists have left a very symbiotic relationship just like a family over the years hence, it is important that they continue to work together because the fourth estate is an important institution for nation building.
The CIO also explained the gradual reforms undertaken so far at the Department under his leadership for which he encouraged the Press to popularize. “I cherish and have great respect for the Press, they are part of my family,” Hon. Kanneh said.
The CIO while committing that his relationship with the media will continue going unabated and unabashed displayed much respect to the media and said their visitation is a testament of his work in Parliament adding “the more reason I brought someone who is serving as liaison between my office and the media”
