The Chairman for the National Commission for Democracy (NCD) Madam Marian Angela Samu, this morning received 2023-2024 Excellent Award from the Kono District Entertainment Network for her invaluable contribution in promoting democracy and good governance.
The Award was presented by the President and the Secretary General of the Network , Joseph Komba Kembey and Mohamed Macauley, respectively, at her Youyi Building Office in Freetown, with clear inscription that reads: “Kono District Entertainment Network Acknowledge Madam Angela Samu in Recognition of her Immense Contribution towards Peace Building and National Development in Sierra Leone as an Outstanding Chairperson, National Commission for Democracy”.
Presenting the Award, the President of the Kono District Entertainment Network reiterated that the Award was given for her contribution in peace building and national development in the country. He said the decision to give the 2023-2024 Excellent Award to the NCD Chairman was reached, based on the feedbacks they received from five radio stations in the District through phone-in-calls from the general public. He said her nomination for the award is a clear indication of the immense work her Commission has done in promoting peace and democracy in the District. Joseph Komba Kembey indicated that the Network has a membership of over 800 entertainers and other influential stakeholders of the District who have been using their influence to preach against violence and the use of narcotics like Kush in the district.
Receiving the Award, the Chairman of NCD Madam Marian Angela Samu, said she is pleased to receive the Award even as she noted that the recognition is an indication of the support she has been receiving from members of her staff who have been working relentlessly to ensure that the work of the Commission is done. She extends her appreciation to the Kono District Entertainment Network for the Award and applauded the people of Kono for recognising her contribution to the District. She underscored the need for young people to take the lead in propagating the need to be peaceful and democratic. She said the Commission has been traversing the length and breadth of the country educating the citizenry about the need to be politically tolerant with a view to enhancing a peaceful 2023 multi-tier electoral cycle.
Madam Samu assured the entertainers that the Commission will continue to collaborate with their Network in Kono in order to reach out to the youth and instil democratic and civic values in them. She said in subsequent programmes the Commission will give serious consideration for collaboration with the Kono District Entertainment Network.
The handing over ceremony of the Award was witnessed by senior members of staff who also applauded the award and express appreciation for the people of Kono for recognising the work of the Commission in their district.
