After the second day of questioning by the Sierra Leone Police, the former president of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma has been granted bail. According to a statement from the Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah: “…Ernest Bai Koroma has been granted bail on self-recognizance and with the condition that he stays in the confines of his property at Goderich in the West of Freetown with restricted number of visiting guests (3 from his family and 3 from his political party the main opposition All People’s Congress). The conditions include that he cannot step out of the house without the expressed permission of the Inspector General of Police…” According to minister Bah, this condition will apply until his return to the police on Monday 11 December, 2023.
However, according to the Former President’s lawyer, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, the former president is not under house arrest. For him, the large security presence is to beef-up around the former president’s residence is to give more protection to his safety.
